Important Safety Notice: Retainer Pod Ultrasonic Cleaner

Why You’re Seeing This Notice

At Essential Whitening, your safety and trust mean everything to us.
We recently received a report from a dental office that one of our Retainer Pods (ultrasonic cleaner for retainers, nightguards, and dentures) experienced an overheating issue with its USB-C charging cord.

The issue was isolated to a single unit, and no injuries or property damage occurred.
However, out of an abundance of caution, we have decided to pause all sales and distribution of the Retainer Pod while we conduct third-party safety testing with Intertek, an independent electrical testing laboratory.

What Happened

- The product involved is the Retainer Pod Ultrasonic Cleaner, a small white tabletop device powered by a USB-C cable.

- A customer reported that the charging cord overheated and melted while plugged into a wall outlet.

- The user unplugged the device immediately, preventing further damage.

- A few prior customers reported difficulty connecting the USB-C cord securely; however, no other overheating or fire-related incidents have occurred among more than 450 units sold.

What We’re Doing About It

We’ve taken the following actions to ensure safety and transparency:

- Paused all Retainer Pod sales across all channels (Shopify, TikTok Shop, and dental distributors).

- Retrieved the affected unit for testing and documentation.

- Contacted Intertek, a third-party safety testing lab, for electrical and thermal analysis.

- Filed a product safety report with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on November 1, 2025.

Our goal is to identify whether the issue originated from the charging cord, port, or power regulation system.
Testing is currently in progress, and results will be shared as soon as they are available.

What You Should Do Right Now

For Patients and Consumers:

- Please stop using and unplug your Retainer Pod immediately.

- If you purchased your Retainer Pod through a dental office, contact them directly for a full refund.

- If you purchased through TikTok Shop, contact us for a refund option once our safety notice is processed.

For Dental Offices:

- Please pause all sales and remove the Retainer Pod from display.

- Once testing is complete, we’ll share a follow-up summary and next steps.

This Does Not Affect Our Whitening Products

This issue is limited only to the Retainer Pod Ultrasonic Cleaner.
Our Essential Whitening take-home kits, chairside systems, and refill gels are produced in FDA-registered facilities in the United States and remain 100% safe, effective, and unaffected by this incident.

Your whitening products continue to meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and clinical performance.

Independent Testing and Next Steps

We are working closely with a third-party testing company  to complete a full safety analysis, including:

- Electrical load and overcurrent testing

- Thermal safety measurements

- Component inspection for soldering and insulation defects

If testing confirms a fault, we will proceed with a voluntary recall in coordination with CPSC.
If the product passes safety evaluation, we will still discontinue this model and source a higher-quality, certified ultrasonic cleaner moving forward.
